I know what it's like to feel like divorce is ripping your life apart. I've felt the pain and hurt. Worrying if I can hold it together enough to hold onto my job. I've experienced the emptiness and loneliness, the stress and money troubles and the pain of not seeing my kids every day.
When I was at my most vulnerable, I needed an expert hand to guide me through my divorce. So I did what most people do in this situation and walked into my local high street solicitor.
At first, they seemed helpful, although expensive – but I was ready for this. After all, everyone knows divorce is expensive…
Soon after our initial meeting, I realised that I wasn't getting a great service. I certainly wasn't a high priority for them.
My solicitor never responded to my messages. I had to follow up each email with a phone call - only to go to voice mail! Finally the solicitor's secretary would respond that the solicitor was dealing with my query… which would start another lengthy delay.
To make matters worse, they weren't responding to my wife's solicitor quickly enough either, which was causing me ADDITIONAL PROBLEMS….
I was stuck between a rock and a hard place.
I put up with it because I was worried about further delays caused by changing the solicitor.
It was exactly like the time I used a solicitor to buy my house, totally frustrating AND expensive – what a combination! A solicitor is supposed to take the stress out of the situation, not create more. Now the easiest divorce in the world was suddenly on the brink of a total collapse.
I was annoyed with them, but more than that, I annoyed at myself. Because I'd spent the last 20+ years working alongside some of the smartest legal brains the world. Although this was in corporate law, I figured that family law firms would operate with the same high levels of professionalism.
Boy did I get that wrong, and it cost me dearly. In both money and undue stress.
I decided during that dark time, that once I got through it, I was going to make sure that others didn't fall into the same trap.
Drawing on my business experience of developing some of the biggest companies around the world, I set about creating a business that would give couples a professional world-class divorce service, that guides and supports them in plain English, so that they can make the right informed decisions.
